Well, the electric scooter, also known as an E scooter, has seen a massive rise in popularity lately in Australia and its not hard to see why. With an attractively sleek design, extremely enjoyable ride style and low price, what’s not to like about electric scooters?

The Key To The Craze

Rivalled only by folding bikes, an electric scooter is perhaps the most portable mode of powered personal transport. Many people are interested in assisted forms of transport but find them too cumbersome or too technical to be practical. Motorbikes are great, but you need a license and insurance to ride one. Push Bikes are excellent, but you’ll often need to leave it chained up outside and at risk of being stolen, and they’re too large to be considered truly portable. But E Scooters? They have none of these problems.

Foldability

Electric scooters are light weight and fold up, allowing for easy storage and portability. A foldable or fold away electric scooter folds in half, with the handlebar usually hooking on the deck or near the rear wheel to secure it in place. This makes the scooter easy to handle and pushes its portability to the max!

Portable Design

The space the scooter occupies will be right next to its weight in importance when it comes to portability. Luckily for E scooter riders this is rarely ever an issue, as with less awkward parts sticking out of it that than a folded bike or other alternatives, the scooter rarely ever has a chance of catching on anything.

Gravity Centred Design

Another factor that influences how portable an electric scooter is, is its centre of gravity when folded. Simply put, this means that the scooter is not “awkward to carry”, or that if you fold it and grab it somewhere close to the middle of the stem, it will be more or less balanced in your hand and not lean over to one side too much. Electric scooter brands are aware of this factor in portable design and as such its a rare case to find an electric scooter that doesn’t feel more than comfortable to carry along by your side.

Ability to Be Pulled

Finally, there is one more factor that affects electric scooter portability, and that’s whether the scooter can be pulled when folded. The majority of scooters, when folded, will have one of their wheels (usually the rear wheel) stick out of the overall frame for easy rolling, with the handlebar being a convenient place to grab the scooter and pull it like a suitcase.

With this feature you can simply pull it along much like you would a small suitcase, meaning you can take it virtually anywhere. Then, when the time comes, you simply unfold it and you’re on your way! Nothing can beat the portability of an electric scooter.

Types of Ninebot Electric Scooters

Stand Up

This type of scooter has a flat deck and a long T-shaped handle, with the battery located at the bottom of the scooter under the deck. This is the lightest weight, most portable, and affordable type of scooter. It also requires the greatest amount of balance and skill to ride as it requires a rider to stand on the deck and maintain their balance to ride the scooter.

Seated

This type of scooter looks similar to the stand-up version. It has a flat deck and a long T-shaped handle, with the difference coming from the seat mounted on a post coming up from the deck. There’s typically enough space to stand on the deck and use the scooter in the stand-up format as well as the seated, giving riders multiple options on how they ride. Some seated scooters have additional features, like a basket behind the seat or a storage compartment underneath the seat. These scooters are generally more expensive than the stand-up style due to their more expansive design, but are definitely worth the increased price if the scooter better suits the rider’s lifestyle.

European

Despite this type of scooter being the largest, heaviest, and least portable, they’re also the easiest to ride and most stable. The body of the scooter has more substance to it with a front panel and rear fenders. They have a classic European scooter look, similar to that of a traditional Vespa, and are ideal for longer commutes and running errands where a rider will need more storage space, horse power or ride time.

Key Considerations

Size

The scooter you buy needs to fit your size, otherwise the safety of your die will be affected. The first measurement to consider is the maximum weight capacity. All Razor scooters list the rider’s heaviest allowable weight, and it is important to factor this into your decision when selecting a scooter. Exceeding the excess weight limit will put undue stress on the scooter and may damage the vehicle. Another thing to factor in is height, as the handle of the scooter should be tall enough to be comfortable to grasp and easy to control. This ensures a comfortable and, most importantly, safe ride.

Battery Life

The next consideration when picking a scooter should be the size of the battery in the scooter. The bigger the battery, the more power the scooter has and the heavier it will be, factors which both influence how fast and how far a rider can go on a single charge. Charging time is also something to take into account while looking for a scooter, with some scooters only taking a few hours to charge and others take a full day.

Weight

If you plan on carrying your scooter with you, then you’ll want to consider its weight when selecting a scooter. Most electric scooters weigh somewhere between 30 and 50 pounds, which may not initially sound like much, but will quickly feel heavy when you’re holding it for an extended time. As such it is important to look at the weight of a scooter when factoring in its portability. A key feature which can seriously influence this is whether the scooter can be folded. If it can, then there is a possibility it also has a dragging feature which allows it to be pulled like a suitcase, very useful for heavier and more cumbersome scooters.

Range

How far you plan to ride your scooter is a good question to pose oneself when looking for a scooter. You need to select a scooter that has a large enough range that you can ride it to your destination and back on a single charge. Getting a scooter which cannot manage a full return trip can be difficult as you will have to charge it at some point in your trip in order to make the full return journey, which can be difficult considering you will need to bring a charger with you.

Top Speed

For some, going fast isn’t a priority. However, if you enjoy adventure and a thrill, look for a scooter with a fast top speed as you don’t want to select scooter that goes too slow for your adrenalin loving heart . Not only will you get to your destination faster, but you’ll also enjoy some heart-racing thrills along the way.

Style

There is a broad range of styles and colours for electric scooters. Choose one that suits your style and taste. It should be something that you’re excited to ride and be seen riding on. Several scooters also have customizing options, which lets you make a scooter uniquely your own.
